Professionally constructed M.A.N. expedition truck with a self-built solid and unique living cabin

The professional expedition truck builder Twiga Travelcars from Ooij (NL) worked for 10 months on building this expedition truck. We then spent about 1.5 years full-time building the interior of the living cabin. In this process we received advice and guidance from experienced expedition truck builders and -travelers, as well as from professionals in their respective fields. After 3 years of living and traveling in our M.A.N., we are now selling our comfortable expedition truck and start a new life adventure.

Building process at the professional expedition truck builder

The basis of this expedition truck is a 4×4 MAN truck. The truck’s appearance still recalls the fire engine the expedition truck once was.

The expedition truck builder carried out all the necessary work on the truck, constructed the living unit with windows, door, and hatches, and connected it to the truck chassis using a subframe and a four-point-mounting rocking system.

To get a balanced vehicle, the builder extended the chassis by approximately 40 cm. The chassis, along with the mounting brackets and steel underbody boxes, were blasted, hot-dip galvanized (corrosion protection) and powder-coated in RAL 9005 (black). The builder inspected the entire truck for wear and proper functioning of the components. New rims with tires size 385/65 R22.5 inches (Pirelli AP05 II M+S) were installed.The rear axle was converted to single-tyre wheels.

All the builder’s work has resulted in a reliable professional travel vehicle for a crew of two. The technically exceptionally well-maintained and enjoyable-to-drive M.A.N. will take you anywhere you want to go. And with sufficient food, approximately 600 liters of filtered water, 700 liters of diesel, 60 liters of LPG, dried wood, and solar power, you’ll be self-sufficient and independent for a longer period of time.

The unique, atmospheric and bright interior makes you feel at home wherever you stay. This comfortable travel home is solidly built with reclaimed oak- and teak wood, combined with equipment and installation materials from quality brands. With great attention to detail and creativity, a practical and cozy living unit has been created. This is reflected in, among other things, a stained-glass window -also lamp- in a closet wall, the small wood-burning stove surrounded by heat-protecting Mexican tiles, the kitchen, which resembles a wide and deep teak sideboard, and the playful construction that serves as the base for control panels, electrical outlets, and USB ports. You also see it in the practical coat- and shoe closet, the spacious and unique teak linen closet, the shuttered floor with large, cool (food) storage spaces, the many sturdy, spacious drawers and cabinets, the ‘floating’ hardwood window frames, the copper curtain rails, and the matching and exceptionally reliable solution for securing drawers and doors.

Professioneel geconstrueerde M.A.N. expeditie truck met in eigen beheer afgebouwde solide en bijzondere leefcabine

De professionele expeditietruck bouwer Twiga Travelcars uit Ooij (NL), heeft gedurende 10 maanden gewerkt aan het bouwen van deze expeditietruck. Vervolgens zijn wij ongeveer 1 1/2 jaar fulltime bezig geweest met het bouwen van het interieur van de leefcabine. Daarin zijn wij geadviseerd en begeleid door ervaren expeditie truck bouwers en -reizigers en door professionals op hun vakgebied. Na 3 jaar wonen en reizen in onze M.A.N., verkopen wij nu onze comfortabele expeditietruck en starten wij een nieuw levensavontuur.

Traject bij de professionele expeditietruck bouwer

De basis van deze expeditietruck is een 4×4 M.A.N. vrachtwagen. Het uiterlijk van de truck doet nog steeds herinneren aan de brandweerauto die de expeditietruck is geweest.

De expeditietruck bouwer heeft alle benodigde werkzaamheden aan de truck gedaan, de woonunit met ramen, deur en luiken geconstrueerd en deze met het chassis van de truck verbonden middels een hulpchassis en vierpuntsbevestiging schommel systeem.

Om een uitgebalanceerd voertuig te krijgen, heeft de bouwer het chassis met ongeveer 40 cm verlengd. Het chassis, alsmede bevestigings beugels en stalen onderbouwkisten, zijn door hen gestraald, geschoopeerd (corrosie bescherming) en gepoedercoat in ral 9005(zwart). De bouwer heeft de gehele vrachtwagen gecontroleerd op slijtage en goede werkzaamheid van de onderdelen. Nieuwe velgen met banden maat 385/65 R22,5 inch(Pirelli AP05 II M+S) zijn gemonteerd. De achteras is naar enkellucht gebracht.

Alle werkzaamheden van de bouwer hebben ertoe geleid dat er een betrouwbare professionele reiswagen is ontstaan voor een bemanning van 2 personen. De technisch bijzonder goed onderhouden en plezierig rijdende M.A.N. brengt je overal waar je zijn wilt. En met voldoende voedsel, ongeveer 600 liter gefilterd water, 700 liter diesel, 60 liter LPG gas, gedroogd hout en zonne-energie ben je voor langere tijd zelfvoorzienend en onafhankelijk.

Kwaliteitsmerken in combinatie met de luxe van natuurlijke materialen

Het afwijkende, sfeervolle en lichte interieur doet je thuis voelen op iedere plek waar je verblijft. Dit comfortabele reis-huis, is solide gebouwd met hergebruikt eiken- en teakhout, gecombineerd met installatie materialen en apparatuur van kwaliteitsmerken. Met grote aandacht voor detail en creativiteit is een praktische en knusse woonunit ontstaan. Het bovenstaande zie je onder andere terug in een glas in lood raam -tevens lamp- in een kastwand, de kleine houtkachel met rondom hitte beschermende Mexicaanse tegeltjes, de keuken die eruit ziet als een breed en diep teakhouten dressoir en de speelse constructie als basis voor bedieningspanelen, stopcontacten en usb poorten. Alsmede komt dit tot uiting in de praktische jas- en schoenenkast, de ruime en bijzondere teakhouten linnenkast, de luiken vloer met daarin grote koele (voedsel) opslagruimtes, de vele stevige royale lades en kasten, de hardhouten ‘zwevende’ kozijnen, de koperen gordijnrails en de bijpassende en bijzonder betrouwbare oplossing voor het zekeren van lades en deuren.

In het interieur van deze truck komt tot expressie dat het leven in een expeditietruck gaat over van gebaande paden gaan, vrij zijn en voluit léven. Er is een bijzonder uitgebreide gebruiksaanwijzing ten aanzien van het dagdagelijks gebruik en onderhoud. Tevens zijn er beschrijvingen en schema’s van de inrichting van de diverse systemen zoals van elektriciteit, gas en (afval)water.

Alle facturen betreffende onderhoud en APK rapporten zijn aanwezig en er is een overzicht van de bouwkosten.

Ook is er een link beschikbaar die toegang geeft tot foto’s en video’s van het volledige bouwproces. Hierin is te zien dat het interieur bijzonder zorgvuldig is gebouwd met oog voor toegankelijkheid van de systemen.
